Question - 2nd group of 6 - Same accounts or new accounts? (1 Viewer)

I have a solid melee group. I am going to make another 6 person team for casters. The question is if I double up on the 6 current accounts? Or create 6 new ones for the possibility of 2 groups in the future.

More info: I am playing on Test. Might one day go 6 subscriptions on a live server but no plans for that and certainly not 12. I don't really have any desire for a massive raid box setup. Played EQ release-GOD, came back and manually 2 boxed a TLP, Haven't done any content past level 75. So will I regret not splitting my new group up? Does more recent content have things you need 12 for that you can't do with 6? Or is it mostly all 1 group or full raid content?

P.S. First time posting, just started this all up a few weeks ago. Huge thanks to the folks doing all the work on the plugins. Being able to enjoy EQ group content again without needing others is incredible.

i *personally* don't have much use for multiple toons on the same account - and these days with persona even less so (unless you needed storage space, or a toon parked for COTH or some other utility reason.

especially being on test

the thing you need to think about, however - is "do i want expansions purchases for 6 or for 12"

I would go separate accounts so you can mix and match. Maybe AP if you got the expansion that had that included but it would be $25 to buy it now.

Not sure if it is only the last expansion you would have to buy for Test server or if it gets the same ones free that Free accounts get?

I have multiple characters per account and it works well for me. I have various configurations across 14 accounts and can make 4 groups from all of them and/or two groups I could play at same time if I wanted. Where it helps me out is Krono purchases. I try to keep all my guys around same level so when I pop a Krono, I am able to autogrant on all the characters on that account. The flip side of that is if I ever catch a ban, they'd be putting a dent in my overall capabilities and group compositions.

My EQ aspirations are just to do single group content and have fun, I am not as serious about it as some people. Mileage may vary of course.

As Sic has said I would create 6 new accounts and create them on there as then as you said you could then run a 2nd group. It would make it alot easier for buffing as well if needed for your other group. Currently when raiding with my guild I am running 2 1/2 groups when numbers are low, it would be something you would be able to do if needed in the end. I should mention that this is with 90% f2p toons. only my WAR and DRU are gold rest are silver/green(wood). As for creating the new accout DO NOT make them all at once spread them out over a couple of weeks/month or so otherwise you will get 2fa borked.

imho the only thing to really factor into a new account vs same account is how much you're wanting to spend on Expacs and mitigation in the event of administrative action on some accounts.
If you need to spend less on expacs, same acct, if you want to mitigate admin actions new accts. If you need both - become a wizard harry because unless you're a quantum computer you can't do both.

For your edification, test gives you gold status, expansions are the same as live servers. Long long long long time ago, before the wind, before the snow, test was granted all expansions from what i remember

I don't wish to change the subject (even though I think Sic pretty much /thread'ed in the first reply and other people expanded), but your last statement isn't quite correct... this can be bypassed with IP change. A few topics on the forums here discuss it at length.

I try to stick with a solid core of 3-4 characters that never change. These are the toons that get have priority with gear and progression. Then I have a stable of alts that I can mix and match for different scenarios when needed. These are always filling the last 2-3 spots in the group. The priority character accounts are the only characters on their respective accounts.

This is a good resource and answers my question I posted above:

You still have to buy the latest expansion to have access to that content

Thanks for the responses. I completely forgot about personas and buying the expansions. So an extra $210 to buy expansions it seems.

I think the only question left is at max level is there 2-group content I want to do (things that 1 group just cannot do)? Or would making 2 groups just be a slippery slope that will make me want to create an army.

It probably also helps to know that I have been doing a lot of old content slowly. Not over-leveling/gearing things. Epic's as low level as possible. Purposefully not leveling just to make things harder. So I'd do that with the 2nd group too. It's not like I'd just power level them all up.

I know a couple of folks who do some stuff with 12, but it is struggle bus, and limited. But that always changes xpac to xpac.

12 fully juiced toons vs 12 fresh squeaky butthole toons gonna have a different time.

I do enjoy having more than 1 group, even if they don't spend time together - but it does give you flexibility.

I personally think a lot of EQ joy is found with having somewhere like 2-4 groups, and have a couple of friends who do the same

Okay that does sound kind of awesome. Essentially a 2-3 person full raid. That adds a bit of commitment into all this though.

GOD was the last expansion I raided. So I have over a decade of content to catch up on. I have a lot to play through and so far getting in-era BIS gear with a "little" help from an extra level/AA makes it all 1 groupable. I doubt I'd even use 12 until max level, but they'd definitely be fully prepped. Although, I really don't want to know how much PP I've spent buying EVERY spell leveling up. Slight waste.

:) Screw you all... ya I think 6 more accounts does actually make sense though. Just in case. Or even if I did just play 1 group at a time the ability to swap in and out people depending on gear drops etc. I'm just on test so it's not like there is any big investment.

I think this decision lays more in what you want to do in the game. If you want to be able to play both groups together, then obviously make them on a new account. If you do not plan on playing both the groups at the same time, then there's not much of a reason to not just make them on the same account. Some people like to play 2 groups and raid with only a few actual people, or some other people prefer to only play 6 at a time and just use their second group for side raids or an alternative guild. I have 14 accounts, but I rarely actually find myself playing both groups together unless I'm raiding. But I also like to be able to have the option.

It totally just comes down to preference though.

@daffie999 single toon per account always...little more expensive to krono pop but much more versatile and resilient to ban waves.
