yes.

You open a link of an item window. Then type ;tell
Click on the picture as if trying to send a link to someone, it should look like this ;tell peridot
hit enter, it will try to send a tell to that item link and return to you a long number most likely with the item name in front of it, copy that name and or number verbatum in a hotkey.

Now for the fun stuff. log all the way out of EQ, then open the folder where EQ is located, Find the ini file for the character you used to send the tell to an item link, look in that .ini for the line that contains the contents of the hotkey you made. It will have the text and or number it will look something like this
(just an example)
peridot 100978600000000000.
now what you want to do is open your character map in windows. start button > program files > accessories > system tools > character map.
look for a character that looks like a square or rectrangle.
□

copy that character and add it to the .ini file line with the link text.

□peridot 100978600000000000□
now you change the text in front of the number to a %t.
like when you are making a typical incoming hotkey in EQ.
"incoming %t !"
So it looks like this.
Incoming □%t 100978600000000000□ !!!!!!!

you can also make renamed links like this.

I vaguely remember something about adding a period somewhere in there and the placement of the square character being placed in a different spot. gimme a few I'll poke around on the net. It's been ages since I've done this, but this is pretty close if not dead on.

*EDIT*
I found a link that shows how to do this, it's a little different than the method I used to use but it works too.

Enjoy.

Remember kids; Dirty likes RedCents too. :D

Erm...great post Dirty....but completely unrelated to what he was asking ;) Also, that guide in the link is outdated, and doesn't work anymore.

He was asking for special characters, not item links.

mmmmm 7&7..
Silly me, reading comprehension for the win :o

Ah in that case just make a hotkey and open the windows character map, and the EQ character's .ini file and copy and past the characters you want into the hotkey line.
What i posted was a way to make the mob that you have %t 'd show up in the magenta color links have, or to make a renamed link.
I missread his question due to inebriation, sorry about the bonehead post.

Say i had this "Incoming ♫♫%t 0019718-00001-00001-00001-00001-000018A5E2B42♫♫" and I wanted the ♫ to look like a link. How would I do that. I have the music symbols in the ini now.

Rich (BB code):
/g Incoming 0019718-00001-00001-00001-00001-000018A5E2B4 ♫♫ %T ♫♫ !!

Appears as: You told the group, 'Incoming ♫♫ %T ♫♫ !!'

Well put one box/up and down arrows before the 0019718 and another box after the last music note. This special symbol displays differently depending on your OS. Could be a box or up and down arrows. See TSW link. If you can't see the box I can't really help you...might just be this forum or something I dunno.

A long time ago I made a function that would make a substitution out of a link so you could just put that substitution (which is built into MQ2) in anything and it would output that text. I'll see if I can make it userfriendly and upload it tonight after I finish working on a better version of that MQ2Assist plugin.
