Problem - EQ Freezing When Loading MQ – Troubleshooting Help Needed - Fixed! (1 Viewer)

I’m encountering a persistent issue where my EverQuest client freezes shortly after I load MacroQuest, this started on 11/29/2024. I have ran 12+ EQ clients with zero issues. I’ve been troubleshooting for a while but haven’t been able to resolve it. Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening and what I’ve tried so far:

The Problem:​

• EverQuest runs fine on its own.
• When I load MacroQuest, the game freezes shortly afterward. Sometimes it freezes immediately; other times, it takes a few seconds.

What I’ve Tried:​

1. Updating MacroQuest:
   • Downloaded and installed the latest MacroQuest version from the RG patcher.
   • Verified compatibility with my EverQuest client.
2. Clean Installation:
   • Removed my old MacroQuest installation and installed a fresh copy.
   • Created a clean EverQuest installation in a new directory to rule out corrupted game files.
3. Disabling Plugins:
   • Commented out all plugins in the MacroQuest.ini file to ensure no specific plugin is causing the issue.
4. Checking Logs:
   • looked for a crash log in VeryVanilla\MacroQuest\Release\Logs\Dumps\reports, but I didn’t find anything from the past couple days
5. Adjusting System Settings:
   • Disabled overlays like Discord and NVIDIA GeForce Experience.
   • Turned off VPN and Protections with it
   • Edited Windows Defender settings to allow more things through
6. Testing System Resources:
   • Monitored CPU, memory, and disk usage during the freeze. Nothing seems to spike abnormally.
7. Task Manager Affinity/Priority:
   • Set CPU affinity and priority for eqgame.exe through Task Manager and eq.ini to ensure they utilize all cores.

Forgot to mention, I also performed a system reboot from a week ago, even though there were no Windows updates during that time.

100% frozen, and to close down the eq client I must use the task manager.

obligatory: check and make sure there are no macroquets files in your everquest dir. mq2main.dll, eqlib.dll, imgui-64.dll, etc.

Check done in the EQ dir. and it's clean. The other files, I know where they are but don't know what to use to open them but when I do open it with notepad it all looks like hieroglyphics.

There is no reason to try to open those files. They are not human readable.

Figured that after looking at them. You can lock this thread if you want, I got everything fixed.

A friend sent me a self compiled RG MQ, placed it in a different folder and ran it and it worked just fine. So that narrowed down the problem and it one of the files that didn't get wiped when I did the 1st clear of RG. Cleared the whole VV files, did reinstall and introduced back my ini files, lua files, etc. one at a time. Now everything is working fine.
