Ugh new computer, and I hate working Kinks out....Anyone ever have the problem where your movement seems bugged? The animation for running sitting laying down, and pet movement (Swishing back and forth side to side) isn't registering for my character or pet. Others seem to be okay most the time though.

Edit: Its also weird when I jump, its like the gravity is almost slightly too low, its more of a float down, than a sudden leap forward etc..

New computer. I haven't changed anything on it yet~

Aye, downloaded the latest ATI drivers, ran that update (Had to restart my comp) Did that, ran EQ. Still weird. When to the device manager, selected the graphic card thats in there, made it update the drivers that way, it actually updated once more, had to restart, and bah. Could it be the dual-core deal? I know EQ doesn't multi-task with another processor setup or similiar....could that be making some conflict?

well EQ should run fine on dual core, EQ doesn't get SpeedStep but that's a different issue :)

Please describe the problem to me in a bit more detail, do you have something like 'suspended' animation?
What videocard is in your machine?

Its the stock card came with it ~ Radeon Xpress 200. Its like if I run to take a step, it would freeze up in that pose, and then coast forward or backward or side to side or even stay that way when clicking sit etc.........I think I have it fixed now though....It was maybe just drivers, rebooted again and retried and it seems ok....But EQ is still bugging me about "You should update your drivers ...." Launch website or continue anyways....Even though they are freshly updated? I dont understand.

It does sound like a driver issue. You downloaded the newest driver from ATI right? Also you didn't forget to go through Options in EQ and set everything up properly, correct?

Yeah , ATI's website doesn't seem very card specific though. Just general updates then I guess you have to update seperately from there? I did config all my stuff under EQ's options though

Is this a laptop? But yes, ATI's Catalyst drivers work for just about their entire line. Pretty much everyone uses unified drivers now.

He specified what computer it is in the first message.
Mochilla the thing is that you are using ATIs chipset so it's not just the gfx it's the whole system that needs a proper driver.
This is what you want(damn, direct links won't work):
you go here:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293
pick : Windows XP Drivers and Software
pick: Motherboards with ATI Graphics
pick: Catalyst 5.12 Windows XP - Motherboard/IGP Drivers
and download the 37Mb driver.

You might also need to uninstall old drivers, but just try these on top first.

Ohhhh dual core? Was in a hurry to answer some posts, sorry I didn't compute all the info. :o

That's easy then... Set processor affinity so EQ goes to specifically one logical core. EQ doesn't work properly with dual core CPUs yet, and yours is a widespread problem. If you use WinEQ, there is an option to set affinity. You could also just press ctrl+alt+del and use the task manager or use Process Explorer to get 'er done.

Should fix you right up. Have fun with the new system, man. ;)

P.S. - Make sure to reload the latest drivers that HP has for your machine and vid card. 9 times out of 10, OEMs have product-specific drivers for setups like yours and using the unified drivers will often create a decrease in performance due to not being optimized for your specific setup.

Where did you hear about decrease of performance due to not being optimized? There's about 1 out of a 100 hardware makers that actually touch the drivers past changing the logo. 99% of the time they are outdated by a few versions of the original driver (ATI in this case). Going with ATI (or NGO/Omega) driver will pretty much always be better than manufacturer driver and this goes for everything in hardware world. Unless you have definite problems always choose the original chipset driver.

While this is a problem that primarily affects notebooks...

www.ati.com said:
Driver - Supported on select notebook configurations. Catalyst® generic drivers cannot be installed on notebook systems. If your configuration is not supported, please obtain a driver update from the manufacturer of your notebook computer. If you have any questions regarding the features or functionality of a particular display driver, please consult with your notebook manufacturer.

It does in many cases affect desktop PCs.

For example, the cards that come overclocked out of the box usually come with custom drivers that adjust fan speeds and enable more image quality options and whatnot. Of course I doubt Mochila's card is overclocked, but there are other OEM-specific options that the vanilla driver often will not support. HD tuners, dual display outputs, ram configurations increased above the default max, just to name a few.

Then again, installing the unified driver may have no affect at all, or even a beneficial effect. It would require some benchmarks to find out for sure, but in a troubleshooting process, it is important not to change too many variables at once. It would be beneficial to the process to have the driver installed that the manufacturer certifies will work properly with the machine to eliminate this as a possibility.

My card is not overclocked at all . EQ is running much more smoothly thanks to both of yah's now :) Also on a side note. This is the coolest temperature wise computer I have owned. (For not having a water cooling system) . Its reduces its Mhz/Ghz according to how much is running in active memory, its great.

Edit: When I set processor affinity , will it always use same processor for that application automatically?

Not unless that 3rd party util I linked has an option to reset affinities for specific programs. That is not something that is saved by the system. In fact, every time you restart eqgame.exe you will normally have to do it manually. There are a few utils out there that will do this for you tho.

...Your desktop has speedstep? That's also causing a portion of the problem. My laptop was running EQ at a snail's pace... I actually had to crank up every graphic option to max just to get it to run at a normal playable speed. ;)

Glad you got it working man.

I dont mind the manual bit, I just can do it when I'm destroying some useless process right before playing.

Not familiar with Speedstep? Whats it do? (Now that you mention it, it actually ran better with higher graphic qualties setup) Now thats messed up ~~

Edit: True story, I had to Permedit my own Taskmgr for it to be able to Affinity EQ to one processor....It worked on all other applications cept EQ and one or two others.....Thank god for Permedit.

Speedstep (AMD probably calls it something different) evaluates current processing needs and scales the CPU speed to be in line with that analysis. There are some utils out there to lock your CPU in its highest possible speed, but if you don't feel like hunting one down, just jack all your EQ graphic options up until you can tell it is running at full speed. ;)

Ha...yeah I know what you mean now....Its a 3.1 GHZ computer and even with EQ running at max graphics its only running at 994 MHZ :) Anyone know how to give me an endless clip plane? I think I can handle it ~~

Runs like Liquid Silk currently at 994 MHZ. I zone in like 12 seconds, never lag anyplace, plus it stays cool at all times. No need to speed lock ~~

Odessa, do you know anything about the thing that can give you an endless clip plane viewing field? (As far as the horizon you could see)
