Presumably if people are allowed to post videos promoting their own religious beliefs this means we'll start getting satanic, wiccan, druid (arf arf!), hindu, buddhist and islamic videos on here too...

Or will this be one of those "only christianity can shove it down people's throat" type situations (like every station in the UK with those "John 3:5:73 "bob the siant said unto thine life dost love blurb..." posters...)

Religious belief promotion should stay in a religious forum or at least in it's own thread where people don't have to read it...

I'm not at all trying to quote "shove" my religious beliefs down anyones throat.

If you noticed, I was very polite in my post. The reason for the video was for the purpose of humor. I apologize if I offended you, but I was not at all attempting to "shove" it down your throat. Yes, I am a Christian, and if my posts emanate that, it's because it's who I am.

As far as I know, this is the general discussion thread and it was my understanding that we can thread our personal thoughts down here.

Also, please don't feel offended because of my "Christian" posts. Honestly, if I wanted to I could turn it around and say that as a Christian, I am offended by some of the language sometimes used on these threads. But I understand that it is each persons own perrogative to post what he wants and I have never undermined that.

My question is "Why does everyone get so offensive anytime anything about Christianity is mentioned?"
 
Bema it's not specifically Christianity I dislike... I dislike any kind of religion who find it neccessary to announce it to others at every occasion (i.e. posters, banners, people knocking on your door, people stopping you in the street, people with megaphones etc). For example the original post had a funny clip in it but could have been cut to edit out the rest of the sermon and the blatant promotion for your/his church and belief system.

Your second post again is an announcement that you are offering people to watch you preaching. I just think any kind of religious talk should be kept in a religious thread/forum where it will be accepted and not offend anyone.

General is indeed general chat but anything offensive is forbidden, thus religion, politics etc should not be spoken about in that forum IMO.

Correct me if I'm wrong by the way Admins. :)
 
Black, I know that certain people don't like Christians anouncing their belief to others, but I'll explain why they do.

It's really not that we are trying to shove it down others throats at all. We feel as if we have this great prize. As if I was walking around giving others a free car. If I had enough free cars to give everyone in the world, I would sure as heck go let everyone know.

We feel as Christians that we have a great truth that this Jesus man really did die for our sins, and that if others knew that then they would have this great eternal life. All we are trying to do is let others know. We feel it as a duty and responsiblity and most of all a privelage.

About you stating that it offended you? What is the standard to offensive statements? If it truly offended you, then you really didn't even have to post. Just skip over it. There was a reason that it bothered you so much and whatever that reason is, it is your own. But like I stated earlier, I read offensvie language all the time, and not once have I ever posted something against it. There are always videos posted in this forum that have a Lewd twist to them, and not once have I ever posted something against that. My thinking was that if they can post those, then I can post this.

What if I thought that talking about 10 story buildings was offensive? Yes, I know it is absurd but what if I did, could no one on this site ever talk about 10 story buildings? What is the standard here. Not once did I ever shove it down your throat, if you notice, I was even very careful with how I presented it. People love to interact on these forums and show pictrures of thier cars, selves, or what not and they are proud of them. I was just sharing my piece of myself with the forums and I apologize that it offended you so badly.

Correct me if I'm wrong by the way Admins. :)

Very true Bema. Please do not turn this in to a slug-fest. All he wanted to do was show something that he thought was funny, to the rest of us. I personally thought it was kind of funny, since he does laugh about it after all. I, myself, do not attend church, or choose to even believe in a religion. But I am not going to stop others from enjoying what they like. Please do not go on with these arguments.
 
oh, and pay no attention to my signature, i just thought it was funny when i saw it lol.
 
This is my last post on the matter. If you believe that you have this great prize and that everyone should share in it that's fine, I have no issue with that. In fact I'll go as far as to say that upon re-reading your posts I stand incorrect. My reaction was purely from my own personal experience and as such I stereotyped what you were saying as the same or similar to other instances I've had and still do have and for that I apologise.

I will however explain a typical day's experience for me in regard to Christianity as a whole (pointing no fingers at specific people by the way!)

I get up and leave for work. I walk to Wimbledon station and stand on Platform 5 to get the train into London. Directly across from Platform 6 is a huge banner quoting to every person who walks past it "the bible says... the lord says..." etc etc on it. I travel to Vauxhall station and then to Oxford Circus on the Victoria Line. When I get out of the station there is a guy holding his bible and thrusting leaflets into everybody's stomach as they walk past him. Regardless of whether they want the leaflet he throws it at them. When I leave work and go back to Oxford Circus there is a Born Again Christian standing outside the entrance to the tube with a megaphone chanting pieces from the bible interspersed with "be a winner, not a sinner". Every time he sees me walk past with my earphones on he turns up his megaphone and walks toward me just so that I have to hear him. While he's doing that, two of his sidekicks thrust leaflets into peoples hands and then get offended if people barge past them in the rush hour trying to get home.

When I get this every single day and I really don't want it I tend to get a little stereotypical on how Christianity seems to be sold to people.

I just feel that if someone's relifgion betters their life and the life of those around them then great, the world would be a better place with more people like that. When it gets to the point of my journey to work I think it's a teeny bit excessive :(

Again though Bema, I apologise for putting you into the same group, you were just sharing, not forcing :)
 
Wow, after hearing that experience I can understand where you are coming from. I do agree with sharing the truth that I believe that I have, but there is a reasonable extent that I am willing to go and that way is NOT it.

Christianity should never be forced onto people. To force something on to someone is first of all a turn off, then secondly it would be like getting that sweater that your great grandma knits you for Christmas. You just don't want that sweater forced onto you. Kinda like that pink bunny suit on the "Christmas Story" movie, lol.

Thanks for being understanding in your post Black. I do accept your apology and I apologize once again if I did come across harsh or forceful. This post was about a video, not about religion, although religion happened to be involved in the movie.

SS44, I found your sig quite humorous. The Catholic Church is, well....different than what the Bible teaches, at least some of them are, as are alot of churches... but that is a totally different subject, lol.

Anyways, Black, honestly, I am very sorry that your experience with Christianity has been so bad. Sometimes people in a group can give others a bad name and there is nothing that you can do about it. There is a right way and a wrong way to "evangelize" and you should never force something on to someone if they don't want it. Telling an eager listener is a different story than forcing a tract onto someone who isn't interested.

If you don't like what's being said and posted, then don't read the thread. I'm not saying that people should be allowed to force their beliefs, but that's not what's happening here. You are choosing to read this thread, if someone is calling you, knocking on your door, and following you around, that's different, but here it's a choice.

Edit: Maybe I should say why I posted that. While playing SWG (Yes, I like it. Back off.) I was talking to a friend that's also a member of redguides. He made a comment similar to your first one, and still thinks that this is forcing christianity on him. My post was directed at him and those that think like him.
 
you can talk about whatever you like in the general forum, but as soon as it turns into an argument or someone starts to feel threatened, insulted or offended it has to stop. This thread hasn't turned into that yet, but it will be closed if it does, it's just for the better sake of the community.

I apologize if I ever made anyone feel as if I was forcing anything on them. If you noticed I posted that it was a preacher video in my first post so if you felt threatened, then I believe that there was a warning as to what you were watching.

Anyways, thanks for the backup Cade and Creed as I didn't feel as if I offended anyone.
 
Cade, you play SWG? I used to play it, and I thought the concept was amazing. The landscape was really cool, but I just couldn't understand the game. I couldn't figure out how to level.

Heck...I just wanted to become a jedi but I coudn't even become a decent civilian, lol...

Anyways, just curious what your rank was and stuff...
 
With NGE nowadays, things are a lot easier. You choose your profession at character select now, and simply do quests and kill things to level.

But, I'm a level 41 Commando, Staff Seargent in the Imperial Navy...if you ever decide to start playing again, come to the server Eclipse and I'll give you my name ;)
 
Sounds good. I still have the game. If it's better I may consider getting on again someday. Between school and my two jobs I stay very busy and don't even have time for WoW very much anymore. So, SWG may be a long way off if even ever.

But there is always a possibility.
