The community is very small, and very selective about who plays on their server. As a matter of fact, even with all my prestige and pull in the gaming industry* I had to get a recommendation from a friend who has been with the community since its near conception. I can't even get my mother an invitation, which is good because she doesn't like video games anyway.
Like I mentioned before, the community is fairly small - the number of active members online at any given time is around 30 people. The most being around 60 when I first started and they had to cap it at 50 for latency reasons, but it seems like a lot have stopped playing due to a character wipe not too long ago. Cross faction talking is available as well as grouping and raiding which is a much needed feature on such a small server. It's also PvP enabled, although there really isn't a whole lot of fighting going on unless the GM's hold a battleground event or a few people camp out in a major city of the opposite faction.
Is anyone else playing on an emulated server? Last I heard there were more than a few open servers running. Unfortunately this one is kind of dying down since the majority of its player base has already "beaten the game." And don't really do any fun raids or activities. I've considered trying out another EQ emulated server as well, but I can't find my old discs and downloading the game and its fourteen expansions from the internet is a really daunting task for me right now.
My first article since forever is actually going to be on topic of Emulators, so I was also curious about your opinions/past experiences as well. Don't just limit it to MMO servers, please include console and whatever other emulators you have played.
Feel free to ask questions and I'll try to answer any you have although I'm not exactly an expert on the topic :shobon:
Also I added some new smilies
