I'm back into EQ after a few years hiatus, and have been heavily engaged in trying to get my characters Layout, UI Skin and working up to macros.. The ultimate goal is to run MQ2 with my group and figure out and try many things i've oftern wanted to in the past. Its taken me HOURS to get my chars layout loading figured out... finally sorted that out.. I did also, install MQ2, went through the fabulous 5 videos from Redbot and a few others from SIC, and also got a small test group of low level toons working together! It was amazing - last night..
Then, I have no idea what i did, or whether i indeed did anything to rock the boat, but tonight I cannot get any characters to work together in a group.

A brief synopsis, and maybe something is glaringly wrong on my approach..:
I installed Redguides launcher, launched MQ2. Purchased the MQ2Shaman, MQ2Esky, MQ2Cleric plugins. I dont think i went and changed anything, afterwards, but with my trying to get a clean layout and a clean skin look, its possible i did. However, I then went through the vids last night and got a couple of newbie toons working well together on kissassist once i figured to start the kissassist macro whilst targeting the main tank.

I set up a couple of macro buttons for assist me, chase, heal me (irrelevant since i didnt have a cleric in this noob group - just a beast and zerk), and back off buttons (per redbots video). Worked superbly!!

Tonight I come to try the group, cant even get them to follow eachother, let alone assist.
I have renstalled MQ2 many times, and the paid plugins, and gone through:
/mac kissassist
/end
several times

I've spent HOURS on this now! LOL. Very frustrated. Would LOVE some ideas or direct help.

If anyone can assist (sorry for the pun), please let me know what you need to know, what I shoudl try as a sample clean approach to test and give a good idea of what the heck is wrong. PLEASE!

Desperatly,
Sushilover

You don't want to use those macros on the toons that are running the class plugins. If that isn't it, let us know and we'll try to assist.

For the class plugins, I tend to put everyone on chase mode with the tank being the one in camp mode. Once you get used to that, can do more interesting stuff with it later. I know it's recommended to put them all in camp mode together, but that overlapping circle thing gives me a headache because the tank will quite often go outside the range + overlap range of the rest of the group and they'll just sit there and watch him die. By putting everyone on chase, except the tank, it avoids that problem. However, it sounds to me like you are running the macro on top of the plugins and they are interfering with each other. Use the macro only on toons that aren't using the plugins.

For the CWTN class plugins specifically you should look/post in that section

Please see >>> Getting Started with CWTN plugins! (Movement, UI Window, Clickies, Pulling, ETC) Check Here First! <<< :)

You need to make your tank the group MA and MT in your eq group window, and then utilize the different modes on the rest of the team

if you did a /cwtn mode 2 this would put everyone other than who you issued the command on, into chasemode, and it would chase your group assigned Main Assist.

the CWTN plugins don't use kissassist --- you said you were using a bst and a zerk and *didnt* say you were using the cwtn class plugins on those toons. In those cases you would utilize the different functionality of kissassist like /chaseon and /chaseoff

/chase [on|off] | [charname]ON will abandon camp and have your group follow the MA - good for manual pulling, or Hunter mode. CharcterName is optional, and can be used to change who you want to chase. The chase(WhoToChase) no longer has to be the MA.
.ini section: [General]
/chasedistance <#>Sets/resets ChaseDistance to the specified number.
.ini section: [General]
/chaseoffTurns Chase off. Updates ChaseAssist=0 in .ini file.
/chaseonTurns Chase on. Updates ChaseAssist=1 in .ini file.

To ensure you're getting the help you're looking for it is important to familiarize yourself with the boards and determine where specifically you should post.

for example:
cwtn stuff goes in the cwtn section
kissassist support goes in the kissassist support section

Please see >>> Getting Started with CWTN plugins! (Movement, UI Window, Clickies, Pulling, ETC) Check Here First! <<< :)

Guys, Thanks so much for the rapid responses!

I am obviously a newbie related to not only MQ2 etc, but posting to this forum. I didnt do a good job of clarifying that the toons i succeeded with were not using the class plugins. I have also been using the class plugins with a couple of my higher level toons, but i'll come back to that on a seperate thread (per Sics pointer) if needed.
Having clarified that - the two toons I was using, were level 1 Beast and a level 1 zerker.
I'll digest the response from you guys, probably more directly the one from Sic, and try it out.

Once again - thanks so much! I'll give it a shot tonight and post results here.

Beautiful. I've definetely made progress.

  • I used the 'You need to make your tank the group MA and MT in your eq group window, and then utilize the different modes on the rest of the team' The MA was something i had miss interpreted (been playing since Dec 1999 and still didnt have the understanding of who the Main Assist should be, the guy who needs assisting or the main guy who should be assisting - clear now!)
  • and then /mac kissassist assist Bob 100 (- to test against on a combat dummy)
This worked. The assist jumped straight in and started attacking till i told him /dge /attack off, /dge /stick off
However, my current in game macro for 'Assist me!' is /dge /assist Bob
Not sure where the differential is on this, but at least the /mac kissassist assist Bob line works. I'll take it into the field now and see if the /dge command works. Is the dge command what Bob executes to call for the assist, or will it happen automatically when the Bob reaches 98% health?

Thanks in advance Sic.

If you're using KissAssist, I'd recommend setting your AssistAt to some number lower than 100; that can lead to your groupmates attacking NPCs upon merely targeting them, which is bad if you were trying to hail them instead of kill them. (99 or 98 is reasonable though.)

The /dge command is general Dannet syntax to say "hey, everyone in this group except the person issuing the command, do a thing". So /dge /assist Bob says "everyone else, assist Bob please". You'd want Bob to be the one issuing this command. If everyone in the group is using KA or the CWTN plugins, this command is usually not needed (it'll happen automatically when the target's HP% reaches the AssistAt number) but you can use it if you want to force a target switch or get people to assist Bob earlier than they otherwise would.

MQ is awesome. People on these forums are awesome. The admins are indeed awesome as well.

But, I need to caution you about something. Be prepared to be okay with spending a bunch of time doing all of this, then making great progress on your characters only to be banned at some random time in the future. DBG is getting more aggressive with banning accounts using MQ lately. It is no longer a factor as to "if" your accounts get banned but more like "when".

I am not telling you this to discourage you and ruin your fun. Quite the contrary. I am telling you this to prepare your mind, so you do have fun, but aren't crushed when these things happen with your accounts.

Also, check out my signature post on how to reduce your risk while using MQ.

Welcome aboard! I do hope you have as much fun as we all do using the tools to improve your EQ experience. 🙏

Now if you could do something about your name, it sounds fishy. 😁

Many thanks - sound advice. I will most definetly beware.

Welcome! Smarter folks than me already responded with great info!
Also join discord and ask good questions....
When you do include as much detail as you can, IE what automation you're using, a good discription of the issue ect!

Now.. onto sushi...
What's your fav? A good Unagi for followed by spicy salmon and a Black Dragon roll.

I write this reply, as i actually tuck into decent sushi for the first time in a while!
I'm going out for 🍣 Tuesday!
The plugins are the Gold Standard on MQ if you want to have trust that another human mind is behind the operation of your toons you've gotta use the plugins. I have them all. And I use the RGMERCS Lua for my Bard until the Plugin is released.

Brill - will do.

Favorite sushi... hmmm. I am a bit of a hamachi fan. When I was in Sacramento, used to go to a couple of places that had very good sushi chefs, had a thing called a TNT.. Basically, hamachi and tuna on top, spicy tuna in the middle, with siracha and spicy mayo on top. Gorgeous. Now, on the south east side of US, tough to find as good, its genrally Thai-sushi options. This weekends offering was indeed pretty good though!
