Looking to see what is out here to try and box more efficiently. I feel like my 3 box is only getting utilized about 35-40% currently. Extensive window tabbing takes a lot of the fun and immersion out of the game.

RG is a great community and the tools you will find here are extremely useful. Please take a moment and read the post I have in my signature before you decide on anything.

Hey Sic, I guess I'm hesitant due to the things outlined in Doc's post. I've been playing off and on since 1999. It just seems to be a hard wall around level 70 if your not boxing or have people to play with now days.

Welcome To The Team GIF by MOODMAN

Welcome to RG and welcome back if you're a returning player!

Always start here RG Video

Watch the vids Sic has created as they are your greatest source of information. I would even recommend watching them twice. Toon Movement - AutoGroup/AutoAccept/MQ2Yes - Basic Overview

Once you have an idea of how things work, you'll want to look into some automation options. Check out Kissassist Beginners Guide, Kissassist Commands , RGmercs, and especially cwtn plugins ( you can also /testcopy your toons and use the cwtn plugins there for free and you'll want to spend some time looking at CWTN Plugins Explained.). New as of Feb 2024, RG Mercs Lua Version

I suggest getting your feet wet slowly and be patient as it takes time to absorb all this information. Try taking your toons somewhere safe and lower level at first and explore the automation options. It takes some time to get used to, so don't be surprised it if feels overwhelming at first.

Once you feel like your're getting the hang of it (or to get a more in depth idea of what this site can do), then check out the plugins, macros, and lua's available to complement your automation. Things like Overseer Lua, buttonmaster, mq2autogroup, MQ2Autoaccept, MQ2Status, GuildClicky, Boxhud, MQ2Buffme, Magellan. You'll also want to see Lua event manager.

How do you get to see and experience all of this you ask? You need to be a level 2 member. To do that you have 2 options. First, you can subscribe (paid method) or second, you can use Red Cents. What the heck is a Red Cent you ask? Red Cents can you help with your subscription and it's the currency this site uses. Contribute helpful information (post here) and others will give you red cents and each red cent you give others returns one to you. check it out! Red Cents

Time to subscribe to level 2 and begin a journey you won't regret. Lots of info and a super helpful community here to help when you get stuck.
Thanks Psy, I have been watching videos and am super interested in the boxing aides, just weighing the pros and cons now and making a decision if I wanna take the leap ;)

When I joined a year ago, I was just like you. I had run a three box manually for years. It was ok, but I could not keep up with current content. I had to buy missions and hunter was out of the question. I got frustrated in only being able to do part of each expansion. I geared up with mq2 plugins and watched my dps triple. I just did not have the reaction time to even push buttons fast enough. I got bold and filled out my team to a 6 pack and got rid of mercenaries. I was able to complete all the content in laurions inn with my group. It was so refreshing. Use this for very a month and it will change how you play.

Do it! It is very addictive though. Like EQ, it is a drug. Once you start using, the old EQ just isn't the same. MQ just enhances the experience, and gets you around that hump of NEEDING to have a group all the time. I love grouping, but it is the waiting for 4 hours to get that 1 hour group that really sucks.

It is stuff that people should be aware of and I appreciate that someone is unafraid to address the elephant. Frankly, I would have quit long ago if I did all of the stuff in that post. I think going into it with the "kiss your ass goodbye" mentality and having fun is what I've done.

If you have some sentimental attachment, then maybe it isn't for you. I'm not wanton in my usage, but the entire point of this is fun... Constant worrying about losing something is not fun to me.

Everyone draws their own line on what is and is not excessive safeguard. Superstition and conspiracy theories abound, even among otherwise really rational dudes (myself included).

There's a thread to talk about that stuff (which you now have enough redcents yourself to snag level 2 access and checkout) and a lot of wisdom in it if you want to dig further. There is also a lot of misinformation and angst as well, so maybe not.

Also remember that you can goof around with this stuff on quite a few emu servers, as long as you insulate your live stuff.

You do you boo.

Thanks Algar, really down to earth and practical response. I appreciate the insight and the tips.

I am new too. And in a very short time it's been the closest experience to classic EQ I've had. Better than any TLP. I may have different goals, but I have just taken a 6-man group through all the classic planes, epic 1.0s and 1.5s, slowly leveling, using AA exp to throttle my level gains, working on 2.0 epics now. Zero rush for anything which has always been EQs biggest advantage over newer MMOs that rush you to the "end game". I also just play on Test, it's free and a low population. I rarely see other people except in PoK and they're often other box groups.

The class plugins are as perfect as any real life player ever was. EQ has never been overly difficult so it's not like they're doing things a real player couldn't. The GUI (and a few text commands) are all simple enough that it doesn't take long to figure out.

The best advise came from a video by Sic where he said that any problems are likely in your settings not with the plugin itself. Group not following you? Set the MT, not assisting? Camp radius is too small, etc. Getting the ideal settings is basically little mini-game you get to play. This has also been around long enough that a quick search yields the answer.

With that said, I doubt I'll ever play on live. While I always have doubts about how "innocently" a banned players was playing. It's just not worth the risk of multiple subscriptions for me. It would leave a sour taste if it did happen. Whereas on Test it's free and if it happens it happens.

On a side note. I do think this has ruined me from ever wanting to play "normally" again. It's just such a better experience and honestly should be built into the live game. Let everyone have a 6 man group with plugins.

I've always looked at it this way.

If you're otherwise not going to play the game because you can't function at a level that the game demands in order to complete content and the game has lost it's luster...then MQ is for you.
Using third party software with any online game has it's risks. Understand that MQ is against the ToS and it's use if found out has it's punishments by the makers of the game.

If you feel like your world would end if you got removed from the game on your current accounts and couldn't fathom the idea of losing them, then this isn't for you.
We understand the risks involved and despite that choose to use it anyway. Much like Algar said, we wouldn't even play the game without MQ, so either we suspend/ban ourselves from the game because it's no longer fun for us, or they do...eventually...maybe? Might as well try to enjoy the game and see what you can do with group of yourself that isn't going to have you sitting around for hours LFG. You won't need to take a random stop every 20 minutes because the group members you've finally found need to afk for 20 minutes because they need to go take care of a thing, or they need the restroom, or gotta make dinner for the kids etc. You just get to log in, form your group with yourself, and go do what you want to do. All the loot is yours, if you want to work on your epic, then your group members are going because they are you. If you want to do hunters for all expansions for a week then you can do that.

With MQ and a group that always wants to do what you want to do you can accomplish so much more in a much shorter time frame simply because every member of your group wants to accomplish the same thing on your behalf.

MQ could have the side effect of,
Making you wish you did this sooner.
Actually completing quests.
Actually completing Achievements.
Actually gearing your characters.
Getting augs for all your toons.
Cause you to realize you need to upgrade the amount of storage space available on your characters.
Allow you to kill named mobs by yourself.
Allow you to be in a position to help others with their tasks.
You may start your own guild.
May make you decide to upgrade your computer so you can box more characters.
You could start your own raid force and end up 54 boxing.
Depending on the resources you decide to use, you could accidentally learn how to program in Lua or C++.
Become more knowledgably about the game because you're able to do everything solo, and as such had to learn all the mechanics so you could do them all.
etc.

MQ adds a ton of Quality of Life to EQ. Boxing is certainly a big perk, but there are other tools available and Redguides has a vast sea of resources created by the community for the use of the community. Even if you decide not to use MQ the members of Redguides are knowledgably about the game. Though their advice may be MQ oriented, a lot of members know a lot of things about quests/gear drop locations/best routes to take to get around, best options to gear various class toons, and any number of other general knowledge things related to EQ.

An example Quality of Life feature is MQColors plugin. This colors the items in your bags with a tinted background so you can identify the type of item it is at a glance.
Spell data built into spell links so you can see more than a basic description of the spell when you look at them.
MQ2AutoSize will resize pc/npcs near you as if they are shrank, but only locally removing the need to actually shrink toons if you don't want to, or deal with large crowds so that you can navigate through the sea of people in lobby.
MQ2XPTracker will track how much EXP you've earned in a session and how much XP/hr you're earning.
MQ2Headshot that will put a title under NPCs names that can be headshot so you know without taking the time to con every single NPC.
Remove invis / levi with a command. So do you don't need to hunt down the buff and remove it manually.
These are just some examples.

For boxing,
MQ2Status you can use to get information from your boxes, such as if they have an item even in the bank when doing quests/tradeskills/collectibles. Get the status on evolving items, how much money they have, find out if they currently have a task/quest and what step they are on, if they have parcels, what their % xp currently is, what zone they are in, etc.
MQ2Relocate, which you can use to relocate your entire box group at the same time using things like gate pots, anchors, AAs (Throne of Heros/Origin), get the wizard to AoE teleport, etc.
a few different loot tools, one of which I made called MQ2LootManager that will let you use the ingame AdvLoot window to grab all the loot on your master looter that you have set as Always Need/Greed, and automatically dismiss items you don't want set to Never, as well as allow you the freedom to manually distribute items that you haven't assigned an AN/AG/N option. There are other looting tools that others will swear by that also have the ability to automatically distribute items to other group members after some setup.
Commands such as /yes, which will accept something on all toons at the same time.
The ability to broadcast commands, such as saying a key phrase to get a mission, or enter an instance.
Then of course there are various options for automating your group. Kissassist, RGMercs, CWTN Plugins, etc that will play your boxes for you so you can pay more attention to the character you're driving. You're boxing, but the boxes are basically group members that do what you tell them to do and never argue with you.

This is just a short summary of tools available. So consider the risks, and the above potential rewards. If you decide to give it a go, at least you have a list of things to look into and try out.

I'm going to be honest and say that a year ago I was in the "If you feel like your world would end if you got removed from the game on your current accounts and couldn't fathom the idea of losing them, then this isn't for you." camp. I had one account that I have played since 2000, and I could not imagine losign it. But, the game became unplayable for me until I found MQ. After that, the joy returned. Well, in May I got a 1 week suspension - I did some unattended game play which I do actually regret. It was not really playing, but that's on me. Anyway, it scared me and I stopped playing all together for 6 months. In that time I learned that while my chars matter to me, I could walk away from the game if they were bann-an-ated. That frees me to play again (smarter this time) and just accomplish the group activities I want to. It has been liberating. MQ is EQ, they just don't know it.
