Below is the list of rules that WILL be followed by EVERYONE on this website. If you would like to talk about them...do so here

and yes...before you ask...this is posted, locked, and stickied in EVERY forum...and there is a reason for it...(that means moderators do not move it or unsticky it without admin approval first)

  1. Don't Post Crap We mean it. Is your post helpful, funny, or interesting? If not, DON'T POST.
  2. Read, comprehend, THEN reply: Before pressing the reply button, read the entire thread. People who only read the first few posts in a thread constantly ask the same question or have the same comment as someone on page 2. This creates garbage posts. If you don't feel like reading, then don't reply.
  3. NO SASSING THE STAFF: Moderators and Administrators are doing their jobs for free because they care about the site. They do not have time for flamewars, rudeness and disrespect. If you sass one, expect a ban.
  4. Search first: Before making a new thread, try a search or two to see if the topic has already been covered. If you don't know how to use the search feature, please read this detailed explanation and tutorial (and thank RedBema for taking the time to do it too).
  5. No spam or blatant advertising: No pyramid schemes or crap like that please. If you have an account, currency or item to sell, use playerauctions.com or a similar site. Redguides is not an advertisement board. The mods will be the sole authority on determining what qualifies as blatant advertising, and what is just a site linked during a legit discussion or an interesting news topic.
  6. Redguides is Troll free: A troll is someone looking to start arguments for the sole purpose of making people angry. For example, if there were a thread titled, "Paladin PvP strategies" a troll would reply that "Paladins suck!" If you get a troll in your thread, don't fight with them, as that is the reason they exist, simply report them and then click their profiles to put them on ignore. If you fall for their attacks you will just shit up the thread right along with them.
  7. Stay on Topic: We all have a million ideas in our heads. We want to comment on things the original poster never intended, but for the sake of organization, DON'T DO IT. If you can't add to the current topic, and you have new topic to discuss, make a new thread.
  8. Keep it legal: You may not post anything illegal, use your common sense. Don't post warez / cracks / keys or links to sites that provide such things.
  9. Avoiding Subscriptions: There have been exploits for WoW, EQ, and several other games which allow players to avoid subscription costs on live servers. This is basically warez so don't post about it, see the rule above.
  10. NO PLAGIARISM!!! We work very hard to keep other sites from stealing our content, and we hold ourselves to the same standard. We don't mind if you copy something from a public source, but you must abide by the following rules:
    • If the information is from a private forum or pay-section, you may not copy it.
    • If the author asks you to remove their work, you must remove it.
    • Any post containing copied (or even rephrased) material from public sources or private sources with an author's permission must be posted in the following format:

      LINK

      Copied Content (in quotes)

      Your personal comment

      Example:
      ---------------------
      http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/02/20/robot.car.race.reut/index.html

      author here said:
SAN FRANCISCO, California (Reuters) -- In what sounds like a science fair project on steroids, engineers at Stanford University plan to have an unmanned robot car ready to navigate urban traffic in less than a year.

Cars are fun and so are steroids, I can't wait!

      -------------------------------

-DO NOT JUST POST A LINK. A thread with a single link is a crap thread, put forth some effort, copy the contents, and make a comment.
Excessive breaches of this rule WILL lead to a ban
  11. Get your own damn account: Account sharing is not allowed. You can't share it with your wife, mother, brother, sister, friend, Rabbi, enemies, cats, dogs, hamsters, gerbil, hermit crabs, hermits, crabs, lions, tigers, witches, turkeys, geese or anything else that breaths, or even things that don't breathe.
  12. No Pornography: If it's showing even half of a nipple, it can't be on Redguides. People read these forums at work, and they'd rather not get fired for looking at porn. They should be fired for wasting their time on a gaming site.
  13. No Excessive Cussing, and No Idiotic Language: This is not the World of Warcraft official forums. Please keep your hilarious writing style OFF TEH BOARDZ FTW!! RLY!!!! Cussing is alright when you're making a point, but I really doubt you have 300 points to make in a single paragraph.
  14. Respect your Redbuddies Do not spread private Redguides information elsewhere. Also, if you get info or talk with someone in a PM, there was a reason it was sent PRIVATELY. Making fun of someone's picture or posting their contact info is not allowed - even if it's posted somewhere else publicly. So to recap, don't give our shit to other sites, and respect the redbuddies.
  15. Post in the correct forum: Redguides forums and subforums are organized. There is absolutely no excuse for posting a thread in the incorrect forum. Each forum has a description under it's name detailing what kind of content belongs in it, so follow it. If we find something in the wrong spot, we will move it without notice, or delete it if we are in a bad mood.
  16. No Drama: Starting or being a big part of drama is against the rules. For example, "goodbye redguides" threads. Those are fine, provided that you are really leaving and not just begging for attention. To be sure, we will ban your account. If you want to tell everyone you won't be posting anymore (but you aren't leaving)...then we won't ban you...unless you lie and post again...
  17. Be descriptive with your strategies: For example, "Make unlimited gold!!" tells us nothing. I could kill a level 2 beetle non-stop for 30 years and make thousands of gold. If you want to post about making money, tell us how much and how long it takes.
  18. Do not post non-factual facts: We aren't here to test your stupid exploit ideas for you. If you truly have a good idea that you're unable to test, be honest and label it as an idea, not as a fact. Posting strategies / exploits that don't work (without qualifying them with exceptions like, "rumor" "idea" or "hearsay") will end in a ban.
  19. If it's GPL protected, include your source: We appreciate compiled programs, but if the program is protected by the GPL you MUST include the source code.
  20. No Virii, backdoors, trojans: Please make sure your programs are run through a virus scanner before you post one. You can get one at http://free.grisoft.com if you need one. If we detect a malicious program, the result is a permanent ban.
  21. No FLAMING or WHINING: I hate it, and so do most other people. Redguides is a place to make friends and have fun...not rip other people to shreds for asking questions or bitching about something non-stop. You WILL NOT FLAME. Simple as that, the Staff will not tolerate it at all, and if you do it repeatedly you WILL be banned, it's just easier for us all without you flamers (no pun intended).
  22. Don't be a JERK!!! Yes, I know I probably missed some stuff...but whatever...to summarize this entire thread...I will simple say "DON'T BE A JERK!!!". You know how to behave, you know what is right and wrong, just use your freaking brain.

Now, along with rules comes what?...you guessed it...punishments.

We will not set any specific punishments, as it leaves room for loop-holes to be found, yada yada yada. Instead I'll just say this:

Violation of these rules will subject you to a temporary suspension, loss of post counts, loss of custom titles, or anything else we [the Staff] deem appropriate; though in extreme cases you will be banned.

If you are banned, you WILL receive an email (not a PM) that explains the full details of why you were banned. Also note, only Admins can Ban people. Moderators can request for a ban to be enforced, but if you are banned, you will be contacted by an Administrator of Redguides and no one lower.

The rules stated in this thread are by no means all-encompassing. We reserve the right at anytime to change, add to, or remove any and all rules or punishments. It is at the sole discretion of the Redguides.com Staff to determine what is acceptable and not acceptable. These rules are not meant to be a definitive source for all situations, merely a guide.
