There are a couple of things that Ive heard in rangerly circles, that I want to tell you about rangers and poisons.
1) Ranger poison damage is supposed to go down to your level when you mentor down, but apparently it doesn't if you already have them on before you level down. Lets say you have a level 50 ranger, you poison on, and then you group up. You can do some nasty damage with your poison ability. This is supposed to work with melee or bow.
2) If you zone while keeping your poisons in your activatable slots and hotkeyed, your charges will go back up without using the charge. - just like the rechargeable totems.
If you find that this works well for you, you may want to take advantage of it to help level up friends.
