The time has come to reflect on what has happened in the last few months as the last tendrils of summer change to the cooler, final months of the year. My first order of business is to remind everyone that fundraising is underway for Extra Life! We are already over $56K towards our $150K goal this year, and I have no doubt we will surpass that goal with ease. We have some wonderful group, individual, and fundraiser incentives. Be sure to check out the Extra Life Guide for how to join Team Darkpaw if you have not done so yet. Thank you to those of you who have already donated or started fundraising; you should have received your keys if you met any of the incentive amounts by August 31. If you haven't seen your keys, please reach out to Extra Life Support. 
 
Next, let's recap what has happened since my July Producer's Letter. Some annual events returned, such as Scorched Sky bonuses, Death, Death, Death, and Living Legacy Raids. We also saw door 7 of the Anniversary Tower unlock, our monthly Year of Darkpaw giveaways and special marketplace items, as well as had another soundtrack with some of your favorite music added to streaming services. And I cannot forget that July also saw Thornblade merged into Mischief.

August was chock full of happenings too, with the Year of Darkpaw giveaway and marketplace item, as well as the unlocking of door number 8 in the Anniversary Tower and another soundtrack release. Gigantic packs were introduced with some never-before-seen pack sizes of much-needed potions. The annual Stone Cold Summer quests and Labor Day Experience events were run, and The Burning Lands expansion items were put into the Marketplace for a limited time.

September continued our monthly Year of Darkpaw updates, Anniversary Tower door unlocks, and soundtracks on streaming services. Marcia Attamilgad briefly brought back her Talk Like a Pirate Day goodies, Fall Fun events have begun, and Laurion’s Song is discounted 25% until our new expansion comes out! Speaking of the Year of Darkpaw, you can still get the Fippy Fest digital packs until December 31st at midnight PST! Rounding out September are the shiny new forums. Be sure to head there and see what they’re all about.

Now, what you’ve all read this far to find, the sneak peek into our upcoming expansion! As you already know from Fippy Fest back in June, the name of this expansion is The Outer Brood. Let me set the scene on what’s to come, read on adventurers! 

In the sky over the hills of the long-ignored Hodstock looms a massive behemoth. A creature so large that it appears to have an entire city on its back. Terrifying monsters fly down from that city. Beasts that have never been seen in Norrath before! Where have they come from, and what could they possibly want?

Norrath has faced assault before, but this time the foe is different. Some farseers have spotted what can only be dragons in the sky around the great leviathan as it floats at the top of the sky. These beings are so large that few elder Norrathian dragons would stand above its knees! All around the massive leviathan flows a force that defies the understanding of any magic users of Norrath, with power exceeding anything they have seen before. Norrathians of all types, mortal and Dragon alike, have banded together to face this unknown power and attempt to drive them back to wherever they came from. Can you lead the charge against such danger, one that seems to have caused even the fiercest elders of the dragon clans to hesitate?

Hodstock is a very deep lore cut.

In the long-discontinued PS2 spinoff game EverQuest Online Adventures, set several hundred years before the main game, Hodstock and Temby was a zone located north of Freeport but south of Nektulos Forest, in an area of the map that we haven't revisited in this game. In EQOA, Hodstock was a nominally good-aligned farming community located inland, while Temby was a "fishing" village on the shore of the Ocean of Tears (but actually mostly a smuggling operation). It appears as though at least Hodstock has survived, just without any reason for us to take note of it until now, which isn't actually unrealistic.

A small amount of quest data leaked earlier this year, and indicated that "Mu`Lin's Tower" would be a landmark or location visited in that zone; in EQOA, Mu`Lin's Reach was the zone immediately to the west of Hodstock. So that pretty much guarantees where this expansion will be getting its start. And that they've taken the time to dig all the way back into EQOA lore to continue building out the world.

I saw this posted and it made me pause. Why do that to rangers? Don't we die enough? Now we get hated too?

And what in the heck are try trying to say with that key ring? (I think I understand it but they need help with comprehension or I do)

Are the key ring slots (additional slots from marketplace/higher tier expac) account wide or per char? Haven’t noticed with the mount/illusion before and am at work, just curious

I spent years and millions of plat getting the all usable ones back in the day... now anytime there is a new one (not just reskinned) I grab them. I couldnt even tell you the number, its ALOT.
 
There are a few folks upset over no illusion included in this expansion.

But for me.....Wow!! A new house!! A Chalet!! woo wee. But I would have to buy the Premium edition.

I am so cheap.....but can I wait till it comes on sale next year???

Inquiring minds want to know. Well, no they don't but whatever lol.

Well that's our dilemma now isn't it? I went and looked at the TOB link and was like, wow, very pretty and animated site, good for sales. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.......

I won't forget they banned one of my mains and never even suspended. I know the rules are theirs to make at whim...but that leaves us at well... if I buy it , and I really want to do it NOW, will you just ban me in Jan or something. With Pantheon, will they ease up a bit as they now have competition for new game and selling their new expansion. Maybe they will be nice until March.

I am happy for the new expansion, but maybe I feel a little jaded over what I thought (yes my own fault perhaps) was going to be a very big improvement over LS. One of the older devs (forget his name) said in a video (don't hate me I'm old and fat and have a Swiss cheesy molded brain) that they got in a pickle with Personas feature for LS and it stalled making a bigger expansion, but that they would not have that issue for the next one. Foolish me for thinking a full on push for more zones. The 'feature' of the Clicky Key Ring, feels like they are just holding out to give us some new ring until they run out of ring ideas. They can do it now, or maybe even have had this planned for awhile. Years of bags cannot be bigger than 10, then suddenly one day they had new ability...and for many expansions now, they increase the slot by 2. See if the final bag reward will be 52 slots for ToB. Or they could have revamped the Heros forge ring and made it far larger, Potion belt-ring, meta morph ring...maybe the new clicky will accept some of those.

Like all of you, I love EQ, I want it to prosper...but I feel like Ralphy getting kicked in the face by Santa with the devasting words, 'You'll shoot your eye out kid".

Well, I went ahead and did it... putting my heart first instead of my brain. Ha. The ornament looks a bit like flat EoK style geometry, sad. I'm not much of a Beta player, but I do look forward to and hope for some fun. ToL and NoS at the least gave me some exploration fun, so I hope maybe it will have that and some nice story.

I remember seeing hackers when i was pretty young.
Now that I write and distribute all kinds of scripts for my living I sneak a "hack the planet!" comment or /echo in there in every single one.

Looks like maps are already updated, so I won’t bother posting those. If people are interested in the missions, I can talk about what we encountered but I’ll be careful not to spoil for those who want to do blind.
